This North Vietnam tour package offers amazing adventures of Vietnam’s stunning northeast. Over seven days you will trek through the mountains, valleys, and rice terraces surrounding Ha Giang, interact with local ethnic minorities, drive through some of Vietnam’s most rugged territory and visit the magnificent Ban Gioc Waterfall that lies on both Vietnam and China. The trip ends up in the verdant karst mountains with a relaxing boat trip at Ba Be Lake- the biggest freshwater lake in Vietnam.

Day 01: HANOI - HA GIANG

Your adventure begins as we depart from your hotel in Hanoi after breakfast. Bidding farewell to the bustling city, we embark on our journey to the northernmost region of Vietnam – Ha Giang. Along the way, we’ll make stops to capture the magnificent views that unfold before us, providing ample opportunities for photography.

Lunch will be served at a local restaurant as we continue our drive towards our final destination of Ha Giang. Upon arrival, you’ll check into your accommodation and spend the night in this captivating town.

Day 02: HA GIANG - QUAN BA - DONG VAN

After a simple breakfast, we’ll embark on a short trek through the beautiful village of Phuong Do, leading us to the town of Thon Tha. As we continue our journey, we’ll be treated to a succession of breathtaking views along the way.

Our next stop is Quan Ba, a region home to the Dao and Tay minority groups, as well as verdant hillocks and seasonal farmlands. Here, we’ll hike along the green and dirt tracks to explore the local villages and gain insights into their daily lives. We’ll also make a stop to hike up to the Heaven Gate, which offers a stunning vantage point for photographing the Fairy Mountain.

After lunch, we’ll continue our drive to the beautiful town of Dong Van, surrounded by its distinctive limestone rock formations. Along the way, we’ll visit the astonishing Palace of the H’mong King, a fortress built by a local chief, Vuong Chin Duc, whose son later became a close friend of Uncle Ho. We’ll arrive in Dong Van in the late afternoon and check into our hotel for the night.

Day 03: DONG VAN - MEO VAC

The day’s activities will be determined by whether this is a Sunday or not. If it’s a Sunday, we’ll start the day with a visit to the Dong Van Market, where we can observe the local people stocking up on supplies before returning to their remote mountain towns.

If it’s not a Sunday, we’ll begin our day by climbing up to the French Fortress of Pu Lo, which was built in 1890 and evacuated in 1945. From this vantage point, we’ll be able to enjoy spectacular views of the entire region.

Continuing our trek, we’ll make our way through the remote and beautiful countryside of Dong Van, passing through several villages along the beaten tracks used by the locals. We’ll stop for lunch at a local restaurant before embarking on the scenic journey up the well-known Ma Pi Leng mountain pass.

As we ascend through the rugged outcrops, we’ll arrive at the beautiful town of Meo Vac, nestled among towering mountains and home to H’mong, Bo Y, and Tay farming families. We’ll check into our hotel in Meo Vac for the night.

Day 04: MEO VAC - BAO LAC - CAO BANG

After breakfast, we’ll embark on a trekking adventure through the beautiful countryside surrounding the town of Meo Vac. This will provide an excellent opportunity to interact with the local people and capture stunning photographs.

Rejoining our vehicle, we’ll then descend towards the town of Bao Lac, where we’ll visit the Black Lo Lo ethnic minority group. These communities are known for maintaining their unique traditional costumes. The areas where the Black Lo Lo live are considered among the poorest regions of Vietnam, with limited infrastructure, poor road quality, and a lack of running water and electricity.

From Bao Lac, we’ll continue our journey on the mountainous roads towards Cao Bang, where we’ll spend the night.

Day 05: CAO BANG - BAN GIOC - NGUOM NGAO - CAO BANG

Today, we’ll drive along one of the most scenic roads in Vietnam, with the peaceful and poetic landscape dotted with terraced rice paddies and traditional houses keeping you engaged and providing endless photo opportunities.

Upon arrival, you’ll be awestruck by the magnificent Ban Gioc Waterfalls, the fourth-largest waterfall in the world. After spending time relaxing and capturing stunning photographs, you’ll have the opportunity to embark on a thrilling raft ride, feeling the water rush against your face.

We’ll then visit the Nguom Ngao Cave, one of the most spectacular grottoes in Vietnam, featuring several kilometers of superbly-lit galleries and a massive 100-meter cavern.

After this captivating visit, we’ll drive back to Cao Bang, where we’ll spend the night.

Charming Ban Gioc Waterfall Cao Bang

Day 06: CAO BANG - BA BE LAKE

Departing Cao Bang at 8 AM, we’ll embark on a 150-kilometer journey up into the mountain areas towards Ba Be Lake National Park. This is one of the largest natural lakes in Vietnam, home to a diverse array of birds, scenic valleys, towering rocky outcrops, underground river tributaries, and a gigantic cave.

While the villages within the park are not exclusively inhabited by the Tay ethnic group, those located high up on the slopes are home to the Green H’mong and Red Dao hilltribe people. Following a relaxing boat trip and a hike along the riverfront, we’ll spend the night with a Tay family in their traditional house.

Ba Be National Park

Day 07: BA BE LAKE - HANOI

After breakfast, we’ll explore the scenic roads of the village by bicycle. Our cycling tour will culminate with a visit to the Hua Ma Cave, the largest dry cave in Northeast Vietnam.

Once we’ve finished our cave exploration, we’ll leave the bicycles behind and transfer back to Hanoi. Along the way, we’ll stop for a local lunch at a restaurant before arriving back in Hanoi around 5 PM.
