Delicous and ‘magical’ Larp – Laos’ traditional food

Once reminding travelers of Laotian cuisine, we cannot miss an exotic flavor which stands for this traditional dish: Larp. It’s a must to say how decicious it is out of it special meaning has to convey to all travel foodies.

Influenced by large range of versions, Larp appears in may countries such as Thailand, China or even France. However, Laotion Larp is especially unique for its own flavor. As one main part of Laotian customs, most visitors know Larp or have been to Laos would know this cultural food. In belief of bringing luck, happiness and hospitality, Laap is particularly served on important occasions as weddings, Baci ceremonies, for instance.

The dish is made from chopped or thinly sliced meat or fish that is mixed with lime juice, fish sauce, mint, coriander, spring onion, chili and uncooked rice grains that have been dry fried and crushed. It is usually accompanied by vegetables including eggplant, fresh chilies, mustard leaves and lettuce. Whatever the combination, they work together to achieve that magic balance of hot (spicy), sour, sweet, salty and bitter. It can be eaten with ordinary rice or sticky rice and is usually eaten with fish or meat soup depending on the main ingredient being used.
