RabbitIsland, better known as Koh Tonsay in Cambodia, is an approximately 2-square-kilometre patch of island situated off the Cambodia’s southwestern coast, closest to the mainland of KepCity with the distance of about 4.5 kilometres. You can just take a boat trip from Kep port, through choppy but refreshing water, to get to the island in from 20 to 40 minutes, depending on weather and water conditions, for 8 USD each. Tourists to RabbitIsland, however, do not be disappointed about not running into any rabbits; the reason why the island obtains this name is that it is somehow in the shape of the animal. There lies just one part on the western side of the island, on the main beach that boats land on, where tourists can stay and relax. When setting your foot on the island, your very first impression is their seeing coconut palms lined the beach.

Then you will be drawn to the 250-metre pristine beach of sparkling yellow sand, of crystal-clear sea water, of the sea bottom with a long gradual slope, rendering RabbitIsland excellent for swimming, and of small bungalows metres from the sandbank. You should grasp opportunities for walking to other little bays on the Island, or swimming off the main beach, snorkeling to view several types of colourful fish, or hiking around the stunning island in hours. Around the beach area, there are no 5-star hotels or any other kinds of exclusive accommodation, it is just an island with basic facilities which well match with the surrounding environment: hummocks, lazy chairs, a few dozen thatched huts (5-7 USD per night with shared or individual facilities respectively).

Even more, there are no traffic, no atms, no wi-fi and especially no electricity! At night, it is just you, your torch, perhaps a beach bonfire and millions of stars overhead. During dry season, it is hard to sleep without a fan due to the heat, but it does not matter in rainy season. Most night, the quiet is impenetrable!

However, the island’s undoubted highlight is its plentiful joints serving up some outstanding seafood fresher than that of anywhere else. When you ask crabs, your server immediately wade into water, choose some from the crab traps bobbing in the water, and prepare your meal.
