The word “Tom Yam” derived from two Thai words: Tom and Yam. “Tom” represents for the time of cooking, and “Yam” stands for Thailand spicy and sour salad. Indeed, Tom Yam is characterized by its distinct hot and sour as its name and fragrant herbs added. All fresh ingredients are specifically chosen to make the greatest soup: lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, galangal, lime juice, fish sauce and crushes chili peppers. In the modern popularized versions, the soup also contains mushrooms – usually straw mushrooms or oyster mushrooms. The soup often includes meats such as chicken, beef, pork, or shrimp. But Tom Yam Goong (shrimp taste) is voted one of the most delicious and most favorite dishes among both foreigners and Thais. It always in the top ten list of not only most delicious but also most famous and most popular foods in the world as well. The soup is often topped with generous sprinkling of fresh chopped cilantro (coriander leaves). Sometimes Thai chillis added gives the soup a bright orange color and makes the chili flavor more pronounced.
